Big FREE public events on December 31, 2016 can be found throughout the region. Live music, DJs, skating and dazzling fireworks displays, all make these must-attends for the whole family. Kick off the year of celebrations of Canada’s 150th birthday at Nathan Phillips Square; Celebration Square in Mississauga has performances by GRANDTHEFT, Trevor Guthrie and Lowell; and the New Year’s Eve Celebration in Brampton features plenty of kid-friendly events like marshmallow roasting and an early fireworks show at 9 p.m.

Celebrate New Years Eve on the Toronto Harbour with a Gala Dinner Cruise. Let breathtaking views of the Toronto skyline lit up like a Christmas tree accompany your dinner and dancing.

The Royal Ontario Museum is hosting a big band dance party that includes special access to its spectacular exhibition of glass art, CHIHULY.

Try something different and ring in the New Year with a 5K run that starts on the stroke of midnight. Then celebrate 2017 with a post-race party! You deserve it.

Spend the evening with some of the most successful master sleuths of all time with the 30th Annual New Year’s Eve Mystery Gala at Mysteriously Yours dinner theatre. DJ Spellbound will have you on your feet after the mystery is solved.

Go Back in Time

To celebrate one of hockey’s longest-standing rivalries, alumni from the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings will face-off outdoors on New Year’s Eve at the 2017 Rogers NHL Centennial Classic Alumni Game. Players include inductees of the Hockey Hall of Fame, 50-goal scorers and many fan favourites.
